Big Wall etiquette

So, my partner and I have been catching some flak lately about bringing our radio (an original 80's ghetto blaster, so it's legit, and we don't play it loud) and beer along on our climbs. We don't even get that wild, nor play shitty music, but someone always manages to hit us with "man, we're trying to concentrate" and such. This has, sadly, been in the Looking Glass area (northside even!). Curious what everyone else's take on the issue is

I've never brought tunes out for craggin', but we've brought a box to El Cap several times.
Nobody gave us any grief. We did get a mention in a Rock & Ice story as bein' some "Yahoos,
blasting Metallica at concert volume", but I don't take anything Dougald Macdougal says
too seriously....After all, HE didn't even know how to button up in a storm. Saw him get to Peanut Ledge afterward, & he looked like a drowned rat. Nope, no probs, of any note with wall tunes.
So, did ya figure out your prospective El Cap route, or was that you?

Nah, wasn't me man - Yosem is next summer, still workin on learning all the ins and outs in NC first.
Course, the types who complain mostly aren't aid people. I dropped a talon from on high (all of about 30 ft) and had this woman give me a full on lecture how microfractures form, blah blah blah, and simply did not understand that hooks don't hold falls - and then proceeded to tell us that drinking wasn't a good idea while climbing.
Hopefully we're keeping it real for the hardmen of old in spirit, if not in ability.

Yeah, we were gonna do some base routes around the Falls Wall in the Valley one time & there was some gal that wouldn't go because we'd brought beers. Whatever, right? I've climbed in just about every state of mind there is, & the discipline of Climbing hasn't let me or partners down.
Ya either get it, or ya don't. Have fun out there, bro.

IMHO, tunes are something can be righteous or impactful. I say 'yes to tunes' but if it really offends the climbing community turn the volume down. easy, ya dig?
Now impactful, well, stool or not, belly to the bar and do it your way, cept when the land managers see it as an issue. Then it's trickier right, cuz it's no longer about you as the climber, it's about you as an ambassador of climbing and the climbing community.
not sure this helps at all make the call on what to do, but the fact that you ask the question means you're right headed about it and will still get to toss back a beer and listen to the Metallica Black album.

I'd go with the Ipod, but I like crushing cans.
Maybe the best workout the hammer gets. Mostly.

As long as you are playing quality tunes and drinking quality beer I would think it's fine... if anything it might make others envious if not downright jealous. Although recently we had to question our decision to blast the beastie boys at 3am next to a happily sleeping party of two in a portaledge as we made our way past on a route just to the left. But they seemed to enjoy our follies and even gave us accolades the next morning and enjoyed the tunes when we were at the same belay.
